Betrayed by the Mayans - Delia DeLeest

Don't you hate it when you put your faith in someone and they let you down?  This happened to me a week and a half ago and I don't know if I'll ever recover.  December 21st was supposed to be the end of the world.  Heck, people had been talking about it for years, it was practically a given, so, I lived accordingly.  The Bible says "eat, drink and be merry" and if you can't take advice from the Bible, who can you take it from?  For the last year (okay, it possibly has been more than a year), I ate deep fried cookie dough at the fair, avoided exercise like the plague, didn't change the oil in my mini-van and scraped lead paint off my woodwork without wearing a mask.  After all, what was the point of being all safety dance with my life when everything was going to be over before the end of 2012?  I was going to meet the apocalypse with a smile on my face and cholesterol clogging my arteries.

Then, it happened...or didn't happen, however you want to look at it.  The world didn't end, the mini-van is making strange noises, my thighs look like cottage cheese and I've got untold number of years to suffer the consequences of my year(s) of apocalypse abandon.  Thanks a lot Mayans.

That brings us to today, New Years Day 2013, a day I was counting on never happening.  Since the world doesn't appear to be ending any time soon, I'm going to have to do damage control in the form of a dreaded New Year's Resolution.  This really sucks.  I'm not going to announce my resolution, that would be on par with a government official e-mailing someone a reminder that their monthly bribery payment is due - there are times you don't want to leave a paper trail, people.  Let's just say I resolve not to spend 2013 partying like it's 1999.

How about you?  Do you have a resolution you don't mind sharing?

Have a Happy New Year - from The Novelfriends!

  1. LOL Delia, I love your writing!!! Happy New Year to you and your family and you cottage cheese thighs. Sorry about that last bit, but these days, most of them have them, so welcome to the 'club'. (yeah, I don't like this club either.)

I am exercising on a regular basis and will continue to do so. That is my resolution. And cut down on sugar and salt. Those are harder than getting my butt in motion.

Speaking of resolutions, us NovelFriends should make one to get together at least once a quarter this year. I've missed seeing you all in person!

  2. Thanks, Stacey! Good luck on your resolutions - I don't even bother with the exercising one because I know I'm too lazy to follow through. I DO like the idea of getting together regularly, we're going to have to work harder to do that.

  3. Clearly I posted too early--I have two typos in the first paragraph!

I'm still lazy w/the exercising, but I'm getting better. Watching tv series' w/hot guys helps A LOT! :)

  4. Charming post, Delia. I'm chuckling and that's a good thing. I hope 2013 brings exactly what you want despite the Mayans and resolutions.

  6. Delia, you are the queen of funny! Love your post. I, too, was surprised to wake up in one piece on December 22, but I'm going to make the most of it. Once I start exercising, I'm going to do it every single day without fail(haven't started yet ). And as soon as I finish eating my second box of Fannie May, I'm done with it for the rest of the year (just ate a trinidad...so good!).

I agree, let's get together for a GNO soon! With a movie this time...I picK; pretty sure it's my turn...LOL
